Expressions of Interest sought for new CMA Board members

Expressions of Interest are sought from people residing in the Central Coast or Lower North Coast for consideration in the next round of CMA Board appointments.

The Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is an independent Statutory Authority established in 2004 by the NSW Government to ensure the ecologically sustainable management of our natural resources and environment for the benefit of present and future communities.

The CMA Board reports directly to the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment. The CMA is responsible and accountable for the implementation of the Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Action Plan, associated investment strategies and corporate governance compliance.

Board members provide local knowledge, direction and expertise during the planning, implementation and monitoring of the CMA’s programs. Board members are appointed for a term of up to three years on a part-time basis and may be eligible for reappointment. Board members have staggered appointment dates and 2 positions become vacant on 20th April 2010.

A Board member should reside within the Hunter-Central Rivers catchment area and be able to demonstrate:

  • An active community involvement and appreciation of a diverse range of community values and sensitivities;
  • An understanding of key environmental and natural resource management issues, including soils, water, vegetation and biodiversity;
  • A working knowledge of land use systems and a capacity to encourage sustainable developments within the catchment;
  • A proven track record in building relationships and working collaboratively with others;
  • Knowledge of corporate governance principles; and
  • Knowledge and skills in areas defined in the Catchment Management Authorities Act 2003.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are requested from people residing in the Central Coast or Lower North Coast by Thursday 12 November 2009 for consideration in the next round of appointments.

The CMA is also seeking EOIs from the Hunter region to create an eligibility list. EOIs received after the above date from the overall CMA region will be considered in further rounds.
